Citrix Receiver is a client based application created by Citrix Systems that enables different devices to connect to either XenDesktop or XenApp. This connection allows application or desktop virtualization, thus Citrix Receiver is not a standalone product.

Brief Explanation of Citrix Receiver

First launched in 2009, it was initially known as ‘ICA Client’ and its expansion into enabling a wider variety of functions led to its name change. It is compatible with a plethora of platforms, such as iOS, Windows, Android, Blackberry, Linux, Windows Mobile, zero clients, thin clients amongst others. It contains a variety of products that have a considerably fast loading time and allow flexibility and convenience for the user. This is because the user can remotely access his desktop from different mobile platforms or computers. Citrix Receiver connects to client devices such as XenDesktop and XenApp via the HDX protocol, as well as to Citrix Access Gateway, XenVault secure storage and a wide variety of other services offered by Citrix. It is important to note that the options of plug-ins of each version of Citrix Receiver that a user can access differs and is dependent on the client’s capabilities and form factor.
