An internal cloud is a cloud computing mechanism used within an organization. It applies virtualization methods, shared storage and network resources to avail control of an organization’s cloud environment. For example, an internal cloud of a university comprised of virtualized server systems on that cloud performing tasks in an elastic computing environment, hence using resources as needed.

An internal cloud refers to a cloud computing mechanism used within an organization primarily for its private use and provides hosted services to limited users behind a firewall. It provides computing, storage and software services to users within the organization. Following are the benefits of an internal cloud:
