Definition of Application Virtualization

Application virtualization is a software technology that isolates the installation of an application from the user’s computer and delivers it remotely. The application just functions as a normal application but is installed on a remote server and is accessed over network / the internet.

It has two different types remote and streaming application virtualization.

Brief Description Application Virtualization

Application virtualization enables applications to be shared with others and deliver applications remotely to desktop/end users.

The streaming application virtualization differs from the remote application virtualization in a sense that in streaming sort the virtualized application is implemented on the user’s local computer.

In the case of streaming application virtualization when an application is requested, components are downloaded to the local computer. Here only required components of an application are launched, the remainder being downloaded in the background as per requirement. Once the download is completed the application that is streamed could be functionally run in the offline –mode.

Both the types have their own uses as applications can be readily installed, and upgraded once for an entire scenario saving the glitches of installing on each computer.
