Explanation

OpenFlow Switch could be used as a virtual (as software) or hardware component. It basically handles the routing of packets and data over the Software Defined Network (SDN) environment by directly interacting with the data plane which is another component of Software Defined Network (SDN). Data plane is situated within the switch whereas OpenFlow switch being the brain of Software Defined Network (SDN) system interacts with the swtich’s data plane and routes that data in the form of packets over the Software Defined Network (SDN) on the basis of OpenFlow protocols. OpenFlow protocol is the medium for communication between the OpenFlow Switch and the data plane.
