What is Parent Partition?

Definition of Parent Partition

Parent partition is the logical division of the hard drive on Microsoft Hypervisor-V based virtual machines. It manages the execution of hypervisor and creates and manages child partitions. There can be only one parent partition but it can have many child partitions.

Brief Description of Parent Partition

The Hyper-V comprises of three partitions namely the root , parent and the child partitions. Each partition have their respective memory, processor resources and policies. The parent partition calls the hypervisor to send the request for the creation of new child partitions for virtual machines.
